I had no idea when I first started cloth diapering about all of the chemicals that go into making most disposable diapers, but after reading about them I really didn't want to put her in disposable diapers anymore. That's why I'm so happy to find a company that makes a disposable diaper that is free of substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, harmful, causing allergy, or locally irritating! They are called Bambo Nature diapers.
Abena certifies that no known substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, harmful, causing allergy, or locally irritating or sensitizing have been added during the production of the raw material or used during production of the finished product: Bambo Nature Premium Baby Diapers. In addition, Abena has successfully passed independent tests from proDERM and the Danish Asthma & Allergy Association which declare that the product poses the smallest possible risk of causing allergies and skin irritation. Bambo Nature products also explicitly list all of the “Product Ingredients” as well as the harmful chemicals and substances NOT within their diaper. (Please see the PDF below “Statement on Ingredients”.) Bambo Nature contains no perfumes, lotions or deodorants. No phthalates, organotins (MBT, DBT, TBT), heavy metals, Cl (chlorine), HCHO (formaldehyde), colophonium, AZO-pigments, PVC, substances known as harmful to health or the environment, known allergens, substances classified as locally irritating, sensitizing, carcinogenic or mutagenic have been added during the production of the raw material or used during production of the finished product. No compounds listed on SVHC (REACH Article 33 (2)) will be present in more than 0.1%. This is a European Union list of Substances of Very High Concern.
In addition, Bambo Nature contains no perfume, odor inhibitors or lotion/moisturizer in order to avoid allergic reactions. The reason is that such lotions may contain allergizing agents that have only been added to prevent odor. Allergies are a growing problem for children and adults alike. Furthermore, babies have sensitive skin, so Abena has been working diligently to develop quality products that do not contain perfume, coloring agents or any other unnecessary additives. So when you choose Bambo Nature you choose to be good to your baby’s skin.
Finding these diapers has made me really happy! I can put a disposable diaper on Maggie now without having to worry about the chemicals I'm exposing her to. They are also so much better for the Earth! Bambo Nature is 80% biodegradable, more than 3 times as much as other brands.
Of course, having a diaper that is free of harmful chemicals is important, but it's also important to have a diaper that works well! When I pulled the first diaper out of the package, I noticed a different feel to it right away. Honestly, it had a more "natural" feel to it. I don't know any other way to describe it. It is also just slightly thicker than say a Pampers or Huggies diaper. When wet, the diapers are a little bit larger than other disposable brands (but still not as big as a cloth diaper). The first night we used one of these diapers on Maggie she woke up with it full, but not leaking...and it's been the same every night since. It's really nice because you won't have any of those "beads" you get from other brands leaking out of a wet diaper! I was sent the size 4 diaper becaues Maggie's right on the border of the size 3/4. The size 4 is perfect for nighttime because it gives her a little bit more absorbancy.
Here's a couple of other great points about these diapers:
1. Super soft material
2. No rough edges, no creases or folds. The creases and folds cause irritation or marks to the skin.
3. No elastic waistband. Typically elastic waistbands have creases and folds the cause pressure marks on the hips.
a. Bambo Nature has a super, super, super soft “ear” that is stretchy. This was designed to avoid the elastic waistband.
4. The Sizes are printed on the diapers. If you have ever used Seventh Generation, you would know that there is no way to differentiate between Size 3 and 4. You would have a drawer or closet with diapers and you and your husband or mom or grandma or babysitter would say which is for day and which is for night???
5. There is blue writing on the product. This is a wetness indicator. The more blurry, the more pee you have.
Whether you choose to use disposables full time or part-time like me, these diapers are a great option and really worth looking into! I think you'll love them!

I would like my daughter to try these diapers because they are free of chemicals and I'd love to see how well they work.

we too use sposies at night so this would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try these because it would be handy to have some disposables on hand for long car rides (like the road trip we just took!) when stopping every 2.5 hours isn't very convenient. :)
ReplyDeleteThey would also be nice to have on hand for when DS gets a bit of a rash - I could slather on the powerful diaper cream without worrying about his cloth dipes!
(and here's my tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/Sillyna511/status/118457414717669376 )

I'd love to try these diapers because even though we cloth diaper most of the time, we do use disposables overnight and I love that these don't have the chemicals other name-brands have.

I would love to try these diapers so that I have some diapers around when my whole stash is rocking a soak. Or so grandparents can use them so we can leave the babe with them for a bit.. after all.. I only have so many prestuff'able' diapers to leave them with. And I would hate to be 'forced' to leave them with chemical-full diapers.
ReplyDeletei would love to try these because they seem to be a good enviromentally friendly disposable option that wont be too harsh on my daughter's skin.
ReplyDeleteThese would be perfect for daycare for my grandson come December! No harsh chemical! Or to give to my sister to try to get her to use something other than regular disposables since she refuses to even consider CDing her twins that are due next month.

I would love to try these because they would be a great alternative to cloth diapers for daycare or a sitter who is not used to cloth diapers!

I'd love to try them bc we do on occasion have to use a disposable and it's not easy to find safe ones. I also like to let my friends know about things like this when they don't want to use cloth.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of having a disposable option that's more natural!

I'd love to try these, my hubby is addicted to disposables and im a cloth fan. i'd much prefer these safer sposies for him.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is all on board with trying cloth for our little girl on the way but I know that sposies may be the way that he wants to go in the end. There are definitely times when they would come in handy so I would prefer a chemical free option like these to try! :)
ReplyDeleteI prefer cloth, but a pack of these for the newborn in january would be a big help! I'd also like to try them out so I can recommend them to my friends who don't want to do cloth.
ReplyDeleteWe love cloth diapering but are looking for a great disposable for trips and at night. We currently use huggies pure and natural which is as organic as you can get from commercial stores around here, but I am still noticing those beads so I have to wonder how "pure and natural" they really are. I would love to try these because they are truly natural and good for the environment. It's a win-win for me!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try them because I'm looking for ways to be greener when we use disposable diapers.

I want to try these, because traveling with 2, soon to be 3, in diapers is SO much easier with disposables! And I like to use disposables when my daughters get a bad diaper rash (teething rashes are harsh) and tend to take a lot of cream, and the cloth safe creams don't always work. It'd be nice to have diapers that didnt reak of chemicals!

Although my son is potty-trained, he just can't seem to make it through the night without an accident, so I've had to put him in pull-ups, and hate putting that much non-biodegradable garbage into the landfill and this is better.

I'm planning to cloth diaper, but my husband is a little nervous about it. Having disposables on hand for him to use while he's getting used to cloth would be great - and these are diapers I could feel comfortable putting on my baby's bottom!
