Wooly Rounds Dryer Balls Review and Giveaway

I stopped using fabric softener with our laundry shortly before Maggie was born. Not only was I tired of paying the extra cost of buying it every month, but I found out that there are a lot of chemicals in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener that I didn't want to keep using in our house. Have you ever heard to use dryer sheets to keep bugs away from you while you're outside--well, that trick really works--but I'm sure the reason it works is that THEY know to stay away from the chemicals in them!

As I learned more about using cloth diapers with Maggie, I also learned about wool dryer balls. Have you heard of them or tried them yet? While great for cloth diapers, wool dryer balls are great for all of your laundry!

What are wool dryer balls?

A wool dryer ball is a felted ball of wool that you use in your clothes dryer to help separate your clothes. Having several in your dryer creates a constant motion that allows for more air to circulate around your wet laundry so your clothes will dry faster. The more dryer balls you use, the less time it takes to dry a load.

 Why use wool dryer balls?

  • help reduce static – wool fibers can absorb static cling
  • naturally soften clothes due to the friction of the balls against the fabric
  • makes clothes fresher and smell cleaner – since wool has the ability to absorb toxins and odors
  • reduce your dry time by 10 –25%
I got my first set of dryer balls about a year and a half ago and I've been using wool dryer balls and loving their benefits ever since!

Wooly Rounds is a wool dryer ball company from Camden, Maine. Wooly Rounds are felted balls of wool made individually, by hand, using 100% wool from a historic mill in Maine. I was sent 4 Wooly Rounds to try out and have been using them for about a week now with all of our laundry. The balls arrived in this super cute bag and are blue. Maggie loves to help me toss them into the dryer. These wool dryer balls are slightly bigger than my previous dryer balls and I love how well they work! I definitely agree that the more dryer balls you use, the better they work. Our clothes have been softer and I'd say that it has shortened the drying time of our laundry by about 10%.  They have worked especially great with out towels! I love 'em!

Wooly Rounds are better for the environment AND your wallet! I'm pleased to have them bouncing around my dryer!!

  6. I have 2 that I use because they help my diapers dry faster (and dryer sheets are an absolute no-no when it comes to cloth diapers), but they're starting to shed fibers on my clothes. I'd love to try Wooly Rounds!

  7. I have not tried them yet, but I REALLY want to! I hear they are way safer then dryer sheets, they wont make a residue covering over the sensor on the dryer (to tell when the items are dry) and I also hear they reduce drying time! AWESOME!
Oh, and I am a cloth diapering momma and I hear they help cloth diapers dry faster!

  8. I haven't tried wool balls yet but it is a good idea. I don't use fabric softner or dryer sheets. I do had white vinegar to the final rinse and that helps with softening. I do love anything that makes drying time shorter.

  17. I bought my wool dryer balls from a Mom at www.WoolDryerBalls.com years ago and we LOVE them!! Hers are undyed and NOT raveled up yarn like others out there that do unravel in the dryer after a month or so use. We have saved so much money by not buying softeners anymore and cutting the dryer's drying time shorter!! They are PERFECT for all types of laundry including cloth diapers and towels.

  20. I would really like to try these! We live in an apartment building with coin-operated laundry and the dryer always leaves everything a little wet (and I'm too cheap to spend another $1.25 to run it again) so there are always slightly wet clothes hanging in our tiny apartment. These might be the solution!

  28. We use wool dryer balls. I like not having to throw in a fabric softener sheet, especially since I use cloth diapers and that wouldn't be good for them. I am not really sure if they cut down on drying time.. things seem to be coming out of the dryer "more dry" than before, but I really should be watching how long the dryer cycles itself. I love that you can add scent to it too! what a great option.

  33. They sound great, although I'm kind of wondering if the "constant friction" that they cause makes clothing wear down faster. I'm the type of person that only buys clothes when I literally need them, and I'd hate for my clothes to fall apart quicker.

  34. I want to try these. I hate dryer sheets, they cling to my clothing and then my dogs find them and tear them up!

  35. I would love to have some to eliminated one more set of chemicals from out house as well as the $ spent each month.

  36. I love wool dryer balls. I recently bought 2, but now one has gone missing. It must be inside of a shirt or something-very mysterious. :o( So I could definitely use some more!

  37. I've actually yet to try wool dryer balls, but I feel a bit silly about that as so many people I know swear by them. We do so much laundry with a baby that anything that reduces drying time would be very, very helpful!

  38. Love them! I only have two and need to get some more. :)

  39. I think they're great! I've made a couple for myself, but mine all eventually unravel because I can't seem to felt them properly :(

  40. I have a few..I am not convinced they are shortening dryer time. I need more to find out...

  41. I made my own (5 so far) and I can't wait to add more...my drying time has been cut in half and can on get better especially when drying towels.

  43. I am addicted to them! I have around 14-16 in my dryer right now! LOL I just got 4 new ones so I am thinking of giving my mom 5 of them so she can start using them too!
