We have 2 children and only 1 video monitor, so when Next Step Baby contacted me about reviewing one of their Foscam video monitors I was excited to finally have one for each child's room! The camera came at the perfect time because we have just started putting Jacob in his crib at nap time.
My husband is the tech guy (I know, I blog, but all I really have to do is type--nothing too fancy or hard to figure out!) so I let him set up the camera. It came with detailed instructions, however if those are not sufficient or you would just like some extra help, the nice people at Next Step Baby are willing to set up a phone call with you to help you get it set up and running! It did take my husband about ten minutes, but then he had everything set up and ready to go on our laptops and iPod iTouch.
The first thing I'd like to mention about this video monitor is that you'll only receive the child's room unit. There is no parent unit because the camera uses wireless Internet to send a feed to your iPhone/Android/Computer. Because the feed is going to your smart phone (or in my case, my iTouch) you can watch it anywhere (as long as you have wifi), even when you're not at home. I take my iTouch with me just about everywhere, so that means I always have my baby monitor with me, without having to carry anything extra along. It's great!
You'll need to download an app onto your smartphone for this monitor so we downloaded the FoscamPro. I believe it was about $5.
The video monitor combined with the app have been GREAT! The app is easy to use and makes monitoring my son while he's napping EASY! Just as you can see in the video above, you can use the app to move the camera, zoom in/out, talk to your child, and hear him or her. It also has night vision so you can see your baby even in a pitch black room! And, on my app, you can even record your child or snap a picture!
Because you can connect over wifi, you can use this camera to also keep an eye on things when you leave your child with a babysitter, even talk to your child over it and wish them goodnight if you'll be out late!
I'm really impressed with this camera! I'm even more impressed that you can buy it from Next Step Baby for just $129.99 with $5 shipping! Add in the cost of an app, and you've got a video monitor for under $150!
Visit Next Step Baby to purchase this or one of their other video monitors at http://www.nextstepbabymonitors.com/. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter!
