I've mentioned many times how much we love to travel with our kids. In fact, we were gone ALL day yesterday doing just that. I unfortunately do not have an tablet or portable DVD player yet, but I can honestly see how having one of those and being able to attach it to your stroller could be a big help. Sure, I dont' like to let my children watch tv for large amounts of time, but there are instances when allowing Maggie to watch a little entertainment makes my life so much easier! There have been many times when I've been out shopping with Maggie and she quickly becomes bored.  I've noticed that I go shopping less frequently because she doesn't enjoy herself for very long. I will certainly take advantage of this feature once I get an iPad!

Even though I wasn't able to take advantage of the tablet/portable DVD holder on this stroller, I still found it to be a great addition to our stroller! There are SO many pockets. When we go out, I'm able to put my cellphone, car keys, wallet, Maggie's sippy cup, my water, and more into it! I love having all of the storage space up close to my hands. I don't have to dig through the diaper bag in the stroller basket if my cellphone starts to ring, because its already up where I need it! Snacks and drinks are right where I want them to be!

An average baby has his or her diaper changed 10-12 times a day, or 4015 times a year! That's a lot of trips to the changing table!! Have you ever thought about the material that goes into making your babies crib mattress or changing pad? Now, I already had a changing pad that I used with Maggie and I honesty didn't think there would be much of a difference, besides the fact that this changing table was made with MUCH better materials, but I was wrong!

My older sister was due to have a baby just a few weeks after I was due with Jacob and she was in need of a changing pad. Since I was receiving this one for review, I told her that she could have Maggie's old changing pad. It had been months since the cover on Maggie's changing pad has gotten dirty, so it had been months since I'd taken it off. When I did take the cover off to give the pad to my sister, I was shoked at how worn it was. I'd only been using this changing pad for 2 years (and always with a cover), but it showed a lot of wear. Maggie's changing pad was also squishy--very squishy and not in a good way. It felt like it had been stuffed with cheap foam/filling that was rapidly deteriorating.

I wish I had thought to take video of the old pad before I gave it away so I could show you the difference in the firmness of the two, but I didn't! I did find something similar to show you--watch this:



The firmness of this changing pad is defenitely one of my favorite features. It is a night and day difference from the old changing pad! It is also so nice to know that there is one less chemical-filled item in my babies room--especially something that he comes into contact with a number of times a day!

Oh, and incase you're wondering--yes, the waterproof cover works wonderfully--it's been tested out a number of times by my son!

Machine Gun Preacher

Machine Gun Preacher. I've seen the movie which led directly into reading the book. Both are very powerful mediums for telling the story of Sam Childers. The book is guaranteed to disturb you and the movie will take your breath away. Reading about the things that Sam Childers experiences on a regular basis is one thing, but seeing things on screen has a bit more profound effect in certain cases.

Gerard Butler plays a decent portrayal of the enigma that is Sam Childers. In his book Childers bares everything about himself, both good and bad. Gerard Butler captures this very convincingly. An especially powerful scene comes when Childers returns to retrieve some children he had to leave behind. It sucks the viewer in and won't let you go.

This story, in both the book and the movie, is dark, harsh, and disturbing. But don't let that deter you from reading the book or watching the movie. You are sure to see a story that brings a glimmer of hope to a country that is literally tearing itself apart. Once you've seen the movie you'll never be able to forget it.

Let me start with the Gia! Here are the product features:

We live in a townhouse, so I like to have a few nursing pillows around because I nurse at a lot of different places! The Gia has been hanging out in my living room for a weeks now. The first thing you'll notice about the Gia pillow is that it is angled and shaped very different from other nursing pillows. I wasn't sure how I would like this feature at first, but I realized almost instantly how great and useful it was! I use this pillow in so many different ways! In the first few weeks of nursing, I dealt with engorgement, plugged ducts, and mastitis. Because of that, not only was I nursing my boy a LOT but I was trying to vary the angles he nursed at to help make sure he emptied each breast completely. I found that the Gia pillow made it so easy to get great support under Jacob no matter what position I chose to feed him in. When I would use the football hold, I would tuck the small end of the pillow behind my back and have the larger side for him to lay on. It worked so well and helped to give my back additional support! Of course, when using the cradle hold to feed him, I would place the pillow with his head/my shoulder on the large end with his body on the rest of the pillow.

I've also used the pillow to prop Jacob up when I put him on the floor. It works great as an angled seat for him after he's nursed. I would recommend that if you purchase this pillow that you also purchase the cover to go with it. My pillow is used so often (and I have a two year old!) that it already has a few little stains on it (because I don't have a cover).  You can however throw it in your washing machine to clean it, which I plan on doing when I get a chance!

Simplisse Disposable Breast Pads

I don't know about you, but when I'm nursing, breast pads are a MUST! Even if I'm home, I still use them or else I'd be changing my shirt a few times a day. I don't tend to leak much when I'm not feeding anymore, but when I do nurse my son, I normally get leakage from the breast not being used. These disposable breast pads from Simplisse are the thinnest I've ever seen and they work great at keeping my clothes dry! These breast pads have a coating on the back of them to help prevent leakage from the back. They also are free of adhesive (which I never use, even if the breast pad I'm wearing has them--I found that to just be a pain!). Lastly, they are very flexible, so they conform to my body really well.

Now that I have my double electric breast pump, coupled with the fact that I'm producing a lot of extra milk still, I've been freezing a lot of breastmilk! I love the gusseted bottoms of these bags because it makes it easy to stand them up in my freezer while they freeze. After frozen, I toss the bag in my big milk storage container in the deep freezer. I haven't had any issues with leakage from these bags, which we all know is THE MOST IMPORTANT feature of a breastmilk storage bag since it's holding liquid gold!!

Many time he'd go to come off of my nipple and forget that he needed to let go--OUCH! After a few days, I was ready to cry I was in so much pain and got this nipple cream out to try. I found it to be very soothing and I LOVED the fact that it wasn't sticky at all, nor did it stain my clothes as other creams had done in the past. The cream has the consistency of a light lotion and absorbs easily. It is definitely a product I would recommend that all new nursing mothers keep on hand!!

Now, let me get down to what I/We think of the Joovy Ultralight Caboose!

 

It falls upon my husband usually to assemble the bigger baby/child products we receive and this stroller was no exception. He set it up upstairs in our dining room so I was able to watch him do so. We actually set this stroller up while I was still pregnant, so that it would be ready to go when Jacob arrived. It took my husband about 15 minutes to assemble the stroller and have it all ready to go. He didn't have any trouble getting it all together. My daughter watched him assemble it as well, therefore she begged to take us for a walk right away!

 

 

When we took our first walk, Maggie wanted to sit in the front seat. At 2 years old, she fit very well into this seat with plenty of room to grow. We tried to convince her to ride on the back seat (or stand) but she refused. It was the front seat or nothing for her!

 

 

Here are some things that I noticed about this stroller during our first walk:

• The stroller is very easy to open/close. It takes mere seconds to do either!
• The stroller is high quality and well made! This is good, because I tend to be rough on things and I need them to last!
• The stroller is so easy to push. It glides along with ease.
• The color and style is amazing. I am absolutely in love with the look of this stroller in every way.
• The basket at the bottom is large and can hold a lot.
• There is a tray for Maggie to hold her drink and snacks (a must for her!)

We had this stroller set up for almost a month before Jacob was born. Even though Maggie had a single rider stroller, I loved this one so much, that I took it out instead. In fact, I gave away her single stroller right away! We went to the outlets shopping one day, shortly before Jacob was born, and I took this stroller.  It was easy to maneuver inside the stores and the basket underneath was great for holding all of my purchases!

Another thing I love about this stroller is that it cleans easily. Maggie spilled some of her smoothie on the fabric while we were shopping, and it was SO easy to wipe off with a baby wipe. Just a few wipes and you couldn't tell a bit! She's a messy kid (aren't they all?!?) so this is a huge plus!

Jacob arrived and I have to say that I was nervous about taking this stroller out with both kids because of Maggie's aversion to riding in the back. The stroller comes with an attachment (that is VERY quick and easy to get on) that goes on the front so that you can easily and safely attach an infant car seat (see picture above). The infant car seat must go in the front seat position, which meant that Maggie would have to ride in the back. After putting Jacob at the front spot, I told Maggie that I would like her to "help" me push the stroller and her brother. I showed her how to stand on the back platform and hold on the handles and "push," and it worked like a charm. She realized how much fun it was to stand, and ever since then she's been happy to ride on the back. The only drawback to her standing in the back is that she is still rather short and unable to see over her brother's car seat, so she has to lean over the side slightly if she'd like to see what is in front of her.

This may seem like a minor feature, but I was so excited to find out that with the back brakes, you only have to push on one to release/set both of them! Another thing I love is the extra large canopy! It covers SO much!!

I'm truly in love with this stroller! I really wish (and hope maybe they will venture into this soon!) the Joovy made infant car seats because I'd love to be able to have a car seat that would match this stroller. It is an awesome stroller that I know will last our family for years to come!
